About the TREAT Study: Paid Research on Time-Restricted Eating & Metabolic Health

The New York-TREAT study is a lifestyle intervention delivered through a smartphone app, designed to enhance cardiometabolic health (such as blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol levels, and more) in adults aged 50 to 75 years who are dealing with overweight or obesity, diet-managed or metformin-treated type 2 diabetes, or prediabetes. The study will explore whether tracking food intake through a smartphone and reducing daily eating hours can impact body fat, sleep patterns, and blood sugar levels.

The Research Set Up

This is a randomized trial designed to investigate the impact of self-monitoring food intake through a smartphone app and a novel lifestyle intervention called time-restricted eating on metabolic health improvement in individuals with overweight or obesity. The 12-month intervention will be delivered via the app. Participants will photograph all food and beverages they consume daily for the first 3 months, then 10 days per month for the next 9 months. Involvement requires one screening visit (~1 hour) and eight outpatient visits (~1-5 hours), including an IV catheter for blood sample collection.

What You Get Joining the TREAT Study

Along with potential health benefits, participants will receive measurements of body fat and energy expenditure, and compensation up to $2000.
